[:en]According to Jeremiah, it was God who was the enemy of Israel.  He used Babylon as His instrument to destroy the walls, the temples and the people.  “The Lord has done what he planed; he has fulfilled His word which He decreed long ago.  He has overthrown you without pity and let the enemy gloat over you.  He has exalted the horn of your foes” (v. 17)  They cried out to the Lord for mercy> (vs. 18-20)[:]
