[:en]The sign of shaving his head and face was a real sacrifice for a Jew.  The hair represented the people in Jerusalem which would face 3 destinies:  death by plague or perish by famine, face by the sword and scattered among the nations (v. 12)  God inflicted punishment on them because of their detestable idol worship and practices, wickedness, rebellion and rejection of His laws.[:]
