[:en]Scripture Reading: Rev. 2:8-11
Biblical Truth: A temple was built in honor of Emperor Tiberius. The citizens were required to offer incense and proclaim that “Caesar is Lord”. Bishop Polycarp was burned at the stake because he confessed Christ and refused to call Caesar Lord. The church of Smyrna suffered persecution from the local Jews and from the emperor worshipers. But they remained faithful and overcome it. Today, it is the only city among the 7 cities of Revelation that exists today.
Personal Application: Jesus himself suffered and was condemned to die unjustly. We may also have to share in His suffering so that we may also share in His glory. (Rom 8:17) But do not be afraid because Jesus is in control and is among us. He knows what we are going through (v. 9). “Be faithful even to the point of death and I will give you the crown of life” (v. 10)
Prayer: Give us the courage to remain faithful to you even to the point of death.[:]
