[:en]King Belshazzar succeeded Nebuchadnezzar as the king of Babylon. while he was holding a banquet, suddenly, the finger of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall. The king’s face became pale and was so frightened. He called all the enchanters, astrologers and diviners to read what was written. But no one could read what it meant. Then the queen heard about it and she came to the banquet. She said to the king that Daniel had keen mind with knowledge and understanding who had the ability to interpret dreams. So Daniel was brought before the king and read for him the inscription of MENE, MENE, TELE, PARSIN. This is what these words mean: Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. Tekel – You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians. (vs. 26-28)
That very night Belshazzar was slain and Darius the Mede took on the kingdom at the age of 62.(vs. 30-31)[:]
