[:en]Jacob was forced to flee from home to face an unknown future. Isaac advised him never to marry a Canaanite woman. Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. That night as he was laying down to sleep, he had a dream that he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. He discovered that God was with him. Early the next morning, he took the stone that he used to put under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called that place Bethel. He took a vow that if God will be with him and will watch over him on this journey and provide him food to eat and clothes to wear, then the Lord will be his God. He got the stone that he put under his head and set it up as a pillar of God’s house. And he will give a tenth of all that God had given him.[:]
