[:en]David had protected Nabal’s shepherds in the wilderness before (1 Sam. 25:14-17)   But when David asked help from him. Nabal refused.  So, David and 400 of his warriors thundered through the countryside in search of him.  In his anger, David’s instinct was to take vengeance and sink his sword into Nabal. But Nabal’s wife Abigail packed up foods and traveled out to meet David and his men.  She respectfully reminded David that guilt would haunt him if he followed through with his vengeful plan (1 Sam. 25:31).

When we have been offended, we are inclined to strike at people verbally, isolate ourselves, or escape through any number of ways.  However, choosing a gracious response will help us avoid regret and honor God.  Let us learn to hold back our anger and walk in step with the Spirit, for He is able to make even our enemies to be at peace with us. (Prov. 16:7)[:]
