[:en]GOD’S FAITHFULNESS AND MERCY
A famous hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” was written by Thomas Chisholm (1866-1960). Born in a log cabin in Franklin Kentucky, he became a Christian at 27 and entered the ministry at 36. However, poor health forced him to retire the ministry after just one year. During the rest of his life, he worked as a life insurance agent. He wrote nearly 1,200 poems and several published hyumns through his life. Despite of his impaired health, God’s unfailing faithfulness had given him many wonderful display of His providing care which he was forever grateful.
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS (1925) – taken from Lamentation 3:23
“Great is Thy Faithfulness, O God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Great is Thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness; Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed They hand hath provided – Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!”
The weeping prophet Jeremiah was so discouraged with all the afllictions and troubles that surrounded him. But God encouraged him with an amazing truth: “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed; for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulnes” (Lam. 3:22-23)
God’s faithfulness continues throughout all generations (Ps. 119:90). His faithfulness is a shield and bulwak (Ps. 91:4). And He is faithful to establish you and guard you from the evil (2 Thes. 3:3). His unfailing love is better than life itself (Ps. 63:3). He is a God full of compassion, gracious, longsuffering, abundant in mercy and truth” (Ps. 86:15). Let us look to Him with faith!
