[:en]GIFTS OF PROPHESY AND TONGUE (vs. 1-25)
Between the gift of prophecy and speaking in tongues, Paul would prefer the gift of prophecy. He who prophesies edifies the church while he who speaks in tongue edifies himself.
When one speaks in tongue, he should interpret what he says. To Paul, he would rather speak 5 intelligeible words to instruct otheres than 10k words in tongue. If one speaks in tongue, he should be able to interpret. Otherwise the hearers who do not understand will say that he is crazy.
ORDERLY WORSHIP (vs. 26-40)
In Corinthian cultures, women were not allowed to confront men in public. However, some Christian woman thought that their Christian freedom gave them the right to question the men in public worship. Since women of that day did not receive formal religious education, and they had been raising questions in the worship service. Paul nstructed the women to ask their questions from their husbands at home so that it won’t disrupt the service. He wanted everything to be done in a fitting and orderly way.
Everything done in the worships service must be beneficial to the worshippers. Preaching and singing must strengthen the faith, encourage the weak and comfort the sorrow of the believers. It must be done in orderly manner, for God is not a God of disorder but of peace.
