[:en]RULES FOR HOLY LIVING (vs. 1–17)

  1. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things (v. 2)
  2. Put to death whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry (v. 5)
  3. Rid yourselves of all these things:  anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips (v. 8)
  4. Do not lie to each other but put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator (v.s. 9-10)
  5. There is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. (v. 11)
  6. Clothe yurselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (v. 12)
  7. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (v. 13)
  8. Put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity (v. 14)
  9. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts and be thankful (v. 15)
  10. Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom. (v. 16a)
  11. Sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratidude in your hearts to God (v. 16b)
  12. Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (v. 17)

RULES FOR CHRISTIAN HOUSEHOLDS (vs. 18-25)

  1. Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. (v. 18)
  2. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them (v. 19)
  3. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. (v. 20)
  4. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. (v. 21)
  5. Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord (v. 22)
  6. Whatever you do, work at it with all your hearts, as working for the Lord, not for men (v. 23)
  7. You are serving the Lord Christ and you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. (v. 24)
  8. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism (v. 25)
