[:en]Thoughts from 1 Thesasalonians[:]

[:en]Paul and his companion Silas and Timothy planted the first Christian church in Thessalonica in AD51 and left when their life were threatened.  Paul sent Timothy back to see how the new believers were doing.  Timothy returned to Paul with good news but they had some questions about their faith.  So Paul wrote this letter to answer their questions and commended them on thie faithfulness to Christ.

Thessalonica was the capital and largest city of the province of Macedonia.  The most important Roman highway (the Egnatian Way) extending from Rome all the way to the Orient – went through Thessalonia.  This highway and its thriving seaport made Thessalonica one of the wealthiest and most flourishing trade cities in the Roman Empire.  With its international connection, many pagan religions and cultural influnces challenged the faith of the young Christians there.

THANKSGIVING FOR THE THESSALONIANS’ FAITH (vs. 2-10)

Paul commended the Christians for their :  (1)-work produced by faith (2)-labor prompted by love and (3)-endurance inspired by hope in Jesus Christ.

The gospel came to them with the power of Holy Spirit.  They followed  how Paul, Silas and Timothy had endured inspite of severe suffering.  And they became a model to all believers in Macedonia and Achia.  They turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.  And they were hoping for the return of Christ.
