[:en]Thoughts from 2 Thessalonians 1[:]

[:en]Paul, Silas and Timothy were together when Paul wrote this letter to the Thessalonians.

THANKSGIVING AND PRAYER (vs. 3-12)

Paul thanked God for their growing faith and increasing love.  They had great perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and threats they were undergoing.  He assured them that “God is just”.  He will pay back trouble to those who troubled them and give relief to those who are troubled. (v. 6)  Wrongs wil be righted.  Judgment will be pronounced and evil will be terminated during the day when everyone will stand before God.  This will happen when the Lord Jesus from heaven in blazaing fire with His powerful angels will come.  “Those who do not know God and do not obey gospel of our Lord.  They will be punished with everlasing destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of His power (vs. 8-9)

Paul prayed these things for them:  (vs. 11-12)

  1. That our God may count them worthy of His calling
  2. That by His power, He may fulfill every good purpose of theirs and every act prompted by their faith
  3. That the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in them according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ
