[:en]Thoughts from 2 Thessalonians 3[:]

[:en]REQUEST FOR PRAYER (vs. 1-5)

Our defense against the evil one is to pray for God’s protection and strength.  Let us continue to direct our hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

WARNING AGAINST IDELENESS (vs. 6-15)

Paul and his companions worked hard because they did not want to become a burden to the believers.  He gave this command to those people who were lazy.   “If a man will not work , he shall not eat” (v. 10)

Some people in Thessalonian church were falsely teaching that since Christ would soon return, they should set aside their respective work and do no further planning and wait for the Lord’s coming.  Because they were not busy, they became busybodies, gossipping and became a burden to the church.  Paul told them to settle down and earn the bread they eat.  He counselled  the church to stop support them financially and to stop associating those who persisted as idlers.  Hunger and loneliness are effective ways to make an idle person become productive.  Paul encouraged them to continue living responsibly inspite of difficult circumstances.  “Never tire of doing what is right” (v. 13)

FINAL GREETINGS (vs. 16-18)

May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in everyway.  The Lord be with all of you.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.[:]
