[:en]Thoughts from 1 Samuel 17[:]

[:en]Goliath was 9 feet tall and the champion of the Philistines.  He challenged the Israelites that anyone who could fight and kill him, all the Philistines would be subjected to them.  No one ever dared to take up the challenge.  Meanwhile, David’s father Jesse  asked David to send food for his brothers, Eliab, Abinadab and Shammah who were all in the army camp.  Upon arriving  at the camp, David heard the defiance shout of Goliath.  He volunteered to face Goliath with a sling and 5 smooth stones.  Goliath insulted, ridiculed and cursed him.  But David said: “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel whom you defied” (v. 45)  David struck him down, drew the sword from Goliath, killed him and cut off his head.  (vs. 50-51)

*Let us emulate the example of David.  He had great faith in God!  He defied the ridicules of his brothers (vs. 28-29).  He put away the obstacles of the heavy armor and took his own staff. (vs. 38-40).  And his only desire was to glorify God.  “Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel” (v. 46)[:]
