[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 31[:]

[:en]WHAT DOES FAITH IN GOD MEANS TO DAVID?

A.   Complete trust in God:

“Into your hand I commit my spirit” (v. 5).

This verse was also used by Jesus as He was dying on the cross (Luke 23:46).  Stephen repated theses words when he was being stoned to death. (Atc. 7:59).

We should commit our possessions, our families and our vocation to God.  But the most important of all is to commit ourselves completely to Him.

B.  Total Devotion to Him:

“I hate those who cling to worthless idols, I trust in the Lord” (v. 6)

David contrasted his total devotion to God with the different pagan religious beliefs.  Today’s idols include wealth, material possessions, success, prestige and reputation.  If we put them first in our lives, we can not expect God to guide us.  God is our highest authority that requires our first allegiance.

B.  Acknowleding God’s sovereignty:

“My times are in your hands” (v. 15).

All our life’s circumstances are under God’s control.  David put his time in God’s hands.  He surrendered his time to God that ultimately led him to God’s blessings and care.

How about you?  Do you completely trust in God’  Are you totally devoted to Him?  Have you entrusted your time to the Lord?
