[:en]Thoughts from Psalms 38[:]

[:en]People are tempted to sin because there is pleasure in sin.  The pleasure of sin can be felt at the beginning but it ends with consequences.  David gave a vivid description of what he suffered when he sinned.

  1. Pierced by arrow with God’s hand coming down upon him (v. 2)
  2. No health in body and no soundness of bones  (v. 3)
  3. Overwhelmed with guilt and burden too heavy to carry (v. 4)
  4. Loathsome wounds (v. 5)
  5. Brought low and mourning all day long (v. 6)
  6. Back pain (v. 7)
  7. Anguished heart (v. 8)

David had sinned and he was paying for his sin.  He had sown the seeds of sin and he was starting to reap the terrible harvest.  However, he did not give up.  He opened up his heart to God.  Though his friends forsook him and his enemies despised him, he turned to God and asked for forgiveness.  He said:  “I wait for you, O Lord, you will answer, O Lord My God (v. 15).  O Lord, do not forsake me, be not far from me O my God.  Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior” (vs. 21-22)

What must you do when you sin?

  1.  Do not give up.  Don’t give in to your feelings.  Don’t watch people around you and don’t listen to the Devil who comes to discourage and degrade you.  Remember that you belong to God and our Father loves you.  He will pick you up, comfort you, clear your wounds and help you walk again.
  2. Confess your sin – Tell God that you have sinned and ask for forgiveness.  Trust Him and let Him draw near to restore you again.
